Nathan Kliemnan, a field organizer and advocate for Occupy Sandy NJ, recommended I outreach to you about connecting with a group of families impacted by Sandy. We are a nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) non-profit legal and policy affordable advocacy organization that also advocates for a fair Hurricane Sandy recovery process that considers the needs of our state’s low income and racial minority families. We are currently in the process of attempting to locate owners of manufactured homes, especially those in manufactured home communities, who applied for RREM and other recovery grants but were denied, did not make it past the eligibility phase or were told not to apply, etc. Over the last several weeks, many of our partners have notified us of issues they have heard about manufactured homeowners accessing recovery assistance; we have also had several questions about this from reporters. We want to understand better the issues that manufactured home owners are facing in recovery and if needed help work towards changes that will ensure they get the relief we need. We would appreciate any assistance you can provide us in contacting families very soon. With new guidelines for the next round of Sandy funding expected within the next 1-2 weeks time is of the essence.
