I dont have a problem with atheists. I really dont. I just have a problem with some atheists that keep saying the wrong things in the name of trying to convince or sound smart. The more you keep saying the wrong things, the more the religious folk keep holding on to their views that youre confused. Here are things atheists shouldnt say. Vic Wayne penned some of them. I edited some parts out and put mine in to connect better. 1. Extra-ordinary claims require extra-ordinary evidence. When someone suggests faith healing works, or Christ came back to life, thats an amazing claim...and theyd better have some amazing evidence. But the problem with faith healing is not that therere SOME evidence or an overwhelming amount of it, its that theres NO evidence- at all. So when someone makes an extra-ordinary claim, you dont need an extra-ordinary evidence or a good amount of it, you just need a bare, tiny-tenee bit of it. If they say prayer works, fine. Let them give you just a tiny bit of it. 2. Everyone is born an atheist. If I were an atheist, thatd have been an insult to me and my intelligence and research. Itd be an insult to the thoughts Ive put into religion. You know, technically its true. But why give a kid that credit. You should only give someone a label if theyve had the chance to think about it and came to accept the label. And again, why should you put babies on the same level as you? What point does it accord to you by doing that? 3. We can be good without God. Now, thinking about this, this is a silly little thing to say. No one, including conservative Christians, ever holds the view that atheists are bad, immoral people(Except the extremely ignorant ones which you should ignore). In fact, most conservative Christians would say atheists could be really nice people. Most agree you could be good without god. No ones arguing. So, when Christians hear that, to them, its the equivalent of, you saying you could drive without a seatbelt and wont get into an accident, and them thinking, youd probably be safe without one on but would be safer if you just wore one. When you say you could be good without God, theyre probably thinking, Well, you can be good without God BUT why not believe in him and be better? What you should say should be, We can be good BECAUSE we dont believe in god. 4. I dont believe in God. Alright. Not believing in the death penalty doesnt change the fact that it exists. When you say you dont believe in God, religious folks are like, Who cares? You dont have to believe. Whether you choose to or not is besides the point. Furthermore, when you say you dont believe in his existence, it sort of suggests that he does exist but youre choosing to delude yourself. What you should say is, I dont believe in the existence of any God or gods. 5. Religion doesnt make any sense. Ooooh, I hear and read this all the time. Its a little thoughtless to say that. You know, when someone tells me, Hey Jargo, literature doesnt make sense, Ill be like, Jeez! Thats because you dont get it. Maybe if you actually did understand, itd make some sense When you say religion or creationism or faith-healing or predestination doesnt make any sense, theyre thinking, Well, you dont just geddit, do you? Now, the truth is not that you dont get it, the truth is that youve gotten it but have chosen to ignore or reject it. But do they know that? No, they dont. And your words should enlighten them. So, instead of saying that, you should say its illogical, incoherent, contradictory. 6. You cant reason someone out of something they were never reasoned into in the first place. I hear atheists say this when they dont want to argue with stubborn religious folks. Like, whatre you saying? All the times beliefs were dropped is simply because someone convinced them to do otherwise. Well, those debates of yours arent futile. You may yet still bring a lost soul(if you call it that) and convert him to your way of thinking right- if youre sure your head is correct in the first place. 7. I trust science, not some 2,000 year old book. Ive got a problem with this. The first suggests you somewhat believe something actually big happened 2,000 years ago- Jesus birth, resurrection. I dont think atheists are suggesting these things happened, or are they? Again, the Bible wasnt actually written 2,000 years ago. It was written over the span of a couple of centuries. So, by saying it was written 2,000 years ago, youre actually granting legitimacy to a book that you intend to debunk and demystify. So, here they are. Things atheists arent supposed to say, points they arent supposed to make. KJA
