I find the professional skeptics and radical atheists to be just as arrogantly self-convinced of the certitude of their dogmatic beliefs as the worst fundamentalist theocrats and ideologues. They, too, blindly believe in a dogma which they take to be both self-evident and the Truth, the Whole Truth and Nothing But The Whole Truth. Their dogma could be called Scientism and its motto could be characterized as When in doubt, leave it out. It believes in such unprovable assumptions such as Occams Razor and doesnt seem to realize that Absence of evidence is not equivalent to evidence of absence. It also doesnt realize that some phenomena are currently still beyond our capacity to detect and measure, as were cosmic rays a few hundred years ago. Those who stated that cosmic rays do not exist back then, just because they couldnt detect or measure them, were ultimately proved wrong. The same may very well happen to those who arrogantly assume they already have the ultimate tools for detecting and measuring everything that exists. Until then, I think the best course of action is to keep an open mind about the nature of the universe and reality. Science, after all, is actually an open enquiry into what is and is the province of brilliant thinkers and intuitive inventors - like Einstein and Tesla - people whose powerful intuitive abilities greatly aided their rational minds. The rational mind is a great servant and a poor master. Unfortunately, for scientific hacks and skeptics, the rational mind has become a deity and the not-to-be questioned, sacrosanct creed they have chosen to believe in is Scientism, the belief that if a phenomenon is not able to be measured by the instruments currently available to us, then it absolutely doesnt exist. But, as Gandhi so eloquently mused, Religion without science is blind and science without religion [or, better, without spirituality and intuition] is lame. :/ ^_^ - Monty J. Renov
