I guess I should start this with by saying that if you find what Im going to say offensive, this is not my intention. If you want to talk about it you know where to find me, Ill feed you and we can talk. Also, I know this post is not necessarily for all of you who have liked us here on Facebook. Getting to know all of you who come in has been a joy that is hard to put into words. If you knew me in my old profession youll probably understand. All that being said, I do want to say some things and perhaps set some things straight from my point of view. My son came home from school and told me that his teacher bought the class pizza. Which of course I think is a very cool thing. Reportedly, he told my son that he had to order Godfathers because our pizza is too expensive. I hear this fairly often as well. I say if you want to order Godfathers you should. They have a very distinctive flavor that is all their own and definitely not at all like ours. However, Stone Deck Pizza is less expensive than Godfathers. Im not saying something obscure like its a better value or a better deal (which I also believe are quite true). Im saying that our pizza costs less. My 14 pepperoni pizza is $19.25, their same size 14 pepperoni is $21.45. Ingredients for their 14 pizza range depending on how many ingredients you add and strangely it is not the more you add the less it costs. Their first ingredient costs 2.00. Buy three ingredients and they will cost you $2.33 each, buy seven ingredients and they will cost you $1.71 each. Our ingredients cost you $1.75 for this pizza, regardless of how many and regardless of what kind. This is just the most basic example but if you look, you will see it extends throughout their menu. So heres the thing that gets me. I buy flour that comes from Naples Italy (very good flour, special just for pizza), I caramelize our onions to bring out a sweetness, we fire roast our red peppers, peel them and chop them by hand. I make each crust for each pizza by hand from scratch (most things here are made from scratch). I could go on... And, my pizzas cost less than the national fast food pizza place in town. When someone tells me they dont buy my pizza because its too expensive. I get it. Eating out is expensive, check out the price of a meal for one at McDonalds. A bag of potato chips at Safeway can cost $7.00. Food costs in general are HIGH. However, when someone says my pizza is too expensive so I had to go to Godfathers, it just blows me away. One last side note, to Colin my manager, and others who will take his point of view, I apologize. I did use the other guys name in public and I agree, its tacky. Im sorry. I generally wish everyone the very best, but I just couldnt leave this one alone.
