I guess Im starting to re-think my love of football, and another - TopicsExpress

I guess Im starting to re-think my love of football, and another post of a friend of mine today is making me think harder. I have an addiction to my Packers, as I grew up watching them with my brother. But more and more I feel that football players are our modern gladiators. I love to see the poetry in motion of a receiver catching a ball and fantastically getting the toes down in absolutely the right spot. The quarterback, threading the needle with a perfect pass. The defensive end making an amazing turn to stop a runner. The timing between defensive back and receiver. I dont enjoy seeing a player lie on the field with trainers surrounding him, his career, and possibly longevity in question. I dont enjoy reading about my football heroes from only a few years back dying. I feel it cheapens me as a person when I support something that destroys lives and gets away with not paying their fair share as a business. A game that celebrates violence on the field, and tries to deny the violence off. I became a vegetarian when I decided I need to live what I preach--what I believe in, and not turn a blind eye to things that I (I feel) are wrong. Football needs to be next...there are so many better things to do on a beautiful fall day than sit in front of the TV and watch NFL.
