I had a few red flags knowing the apartment I rented was on the market for a long time and more red flags when the property manager got aggressive trying to get me to sign a lease. But it was the best deal in the area I needed to move to, in the time frame I needed to move. I hate moving when you dont have time to find the right place, but I liked the apartment and the area so I went with it. It really was the best choice! Not even in the apartment a few days and several items listed in the rental ad and verbally promised turn out to be a lie. Some of them major. I have now caught an employee and the property manager in lies, and looks like, since I signed a lease, there is nothing I can do about it. Its horrible. So I really dont know what do to. Financially and logistically I cant afford the money or time to find another place. I still have to move from LA, which I really dont want to, but I could not afford a second apartment nor is renting 2 apartments a smart idea. I also cringe about living in a place where the people who manage the property are dishonest. I dont want drama. In fact, emotionally I feel like Im on egg shells and fighting with a landlord would tank me! Ya we could go to court, but that just creates madness. Ive lived a few years without any landlord troubles and Id like it to stay that way. In my past, Ive had some horrible situations with property managers so this is bringing up all those feelings. My goal in moving to Syracuse was to at least have a nice place. It was kind of my mental reward myself for leaving Los Angeles, a city I will always consider home. Dont ya just hate it when live doesnt match you expectations! :)
