I have been elected the President of the Indian Chamber of Commerce today. I accept this honour and privilege with the deepest humility. The President of India was present at our Annual General Meeting. He did the honours in felicitating 18 past Presidents today for their services to the Chamber. Since its birth in 1925, the Chamber has worked unwaveringly for the development of business and commerce in India-particularly in the East and the North-East. Our theme for the new year will be: Development through Connectivity. Connectivity in all its avatars: physical connectivity through roads, railways, ports and air-links, human connectivity between people and cultural links and digital connectivity through broadband infrastructures, internet and connected knowledge networks. As we look East, we see the sun of progress rising in the lands of Bangladesh, India, Myanmar and China (BIMC) and connecting to Japan and the ASEAN and the Rest of the World. In my term as President there will be a special emphasis on the East and its network and Innovation. Watch this space and our website. I would like to thank all my well-wishers, friends and family, mentors and guides as I begin a new journey. Just in case you are wondering, I am keeping my day job at Deloitte Consulting.
