I like to keep things light on this page, but I’m struggling with this one. When — and why — did the people in this country become so @#%! cranky? According to the ALS, the “Ice Bucket Challenge” has helped raise “$70.2 million in donations compared to $2.5 million during the same time period last year (July 29 to August 24). These donations have come from existing donors and 1.3 million new donors to The Association.” Yet, we’re supposed to pooh-pooh this because some folks don’t have clean drinking water? I’ve got a solution: Let’s all quit bathing. After all, that wastes far more water than dousing oneself with a bucket of ice. The reality is the clean water we use — or waste — in the US has absolutely no effect on those without access to such water in third-world countries. None of us want to see folks die due to a lack of clean drinking water, but to try to make people raising money for an equally great cause — and having a little fun with it too — feel guilty is deplorable.
