I personally havent been able to formulate my own thoughts on #Blackface & the inevitable question of Why Leon Schuster gets away with it. Here Laura Windvogel explains very very well. I took these from a thread with Danielle Danielle (I love the light bulb moment that happened here. Or rather the heart-jolt moment :) ) He gets away with it because he is a National Treasure dont you dare say something against Leon. Also : He does something way more important. He basically tempts the racism out of people. The inherent racism that is usually bubbling right under the surface. And then: THE GREAT REVEAL : Hes white, your reaction is caught on camera and even though were all laughing we also cant forget the look in your eye when you thought it was someone of a different race, and you were somehow better than them. THAT is what Leon Schuster does. He eggs you on to make people see that its all still there, we just pretend otherwise by adopting the banner of Rainbow Nation. Also : Shucks eks Gatvol van Rasisme! Xxx. Yeah people bringing up Leon Schuster doing blackface really dont understand the method behind his madness. PLEASE watch some candid camera stuff of him where he gets borderline beatup during a skit where he is disguised as a black/indian man/woman and the looks on the mens faces when they realize it was Leon all along. Its the scariest and most eye opening thing. But then at the same time his skits do really bring out great moments of national love etc etc, its not all bad, duh. Also ps I wasnt joking about him being a National Treasure. If he were like 30 years younger we coulda done some great stuff together. Off screen.
