I thought this was an interesting glimpse into the world of the third gender in India, which I was first exposed to via the India anthology of Travelers Tales. On my last visit to Calcutta, I spent some time in the company of a group of transgender men (hijras), who were trying to break the traditional low role that they had been cast into. They could only find housing on the edge of the red light district, and were fighting a hard battle. The sweeping decision redefines their rights and the states obligation to them as one of Indias most marginalized groups. Please read.
