I want to share with you a message I preached in my chapel - TopicsExpress

I want to share with you a message I preached in my chapel yesterday. The passage was Mark 4:35 to 41. It was Marks account of the storm that the disciples of Jesus encountered while they were travelling with the Master. In life, we face storms in many ways. Some storms are natural environmental occurrences such a rainstorm that sweeps across the nation and leaves in its trail massive destruction of lives and property. Some storms are the difficult situations and circumstances that hit us. It could be loss of a job, loss of a dear one, failure, sickness, etc. Some storms come suddenly and unexpectedly; we see some storms on the horizon approaching and try as we could to avoid them, they hit us so badly. As human beings and especially Christians, storms of life expose our grasp on God. The Bible says when you fail in the day of adversity, your strength is small. And for many of us, storms of live reveal that our strength as believers is small. We panic, we say and do things which are not consistent with our claim as people who believe in God. I want to suggest 5 things we should not forget when we are hit by the storms of life. These 5 principles can be seen in our passage and each of them begins with the letter P. Today, I will share the first P - PURPOSE or PLAN. When you are hit by the storms of life, do not forget the PURPOSE of God. In our passage, Jesus had a purpose for getting his disciples in the boat. He said in verse 35 let us cross to the other side of the lake. Jesus had a destination in mind for the ride in the boat. The plan was not to get the disciples drowned on the lake. God has a purpose for you and I. In Jeremiah 29:11. He said his plan for us is to take us to a successful end, not to end us failures. In John 10:10, he said his purpose for coming was to give us abundant life and not to steal, kill and destroy as Satan would do. Finally, Roman 8:28-30 says all things work for our good. That means a God can turn the storm into good. In KJV, the Bible says God has predestinated us. That means our destination has already been pre-determined by God. And that scriptures says we are going to end in the image of Gods Son - Jesus Christ. So I know that even though I have challenges with my life today, I will end as God has predestinated me. Hallelujah. This is good news. So my dear friend, the storms will come in their season because we are living on this cursed planet. Whether it is cyclone, hurricane, tsunami or whether it is a problem you are having, they will come and pass. You have to hold on to God so that after the storm is passed you can sing THE STORM IS OVER. But while you are going through the storm, do not forget the PURPOSE of God is not to destroy you but to take you to the other side or to another level. I am told that when an aircraft is going up to a higher altitude, it must contend with some turbulence. But that aircraft has the engine power to breakthrough the turbulence. You also have the power to go beyond to a higher level. Stay connected to God. Amen.
