I was raised with a mindset that I can make a difference in at least one person’s life. However, I discovered that I couldn’t do it alone. Throughout much of my life, I was missing essential ingredients: aspiration, motivation and support which makes a difference a big change. My name is Ogulsheker (Sheker) Mametkurbanova. I am an international student from Turkmenistan, Central Asia. It is currently my fourth semester and I am pursuing a degree in Communications. I came to Bunker Hill Community College in September of 2012. Bunker Hill Community College has become one of the life-altering choices I have ever made in my life, which transformed me into a more mature, motivated and self-actualized woman. Throughout my BHCC journey, I have explored the rest of the world simply by hearing different languages in hallways. I have learned that along with diversity comes knowledge. I have experienced that success requires hard work, determination, motivation, resources and network. I have met people who inspire me to go beyond my limits, never give up and achieve my dreams. I have seen that each of us, either you are part- time or full-time student, plays an essential role in a BHCC student life. Bunker Hill Community College has become a vital transformation for me. Throughout my semesters, I have succeeded and achieved my academic and personal goals. My success and accomplishments came with support of people and recourses I utilize at Bunker Hill Community College. I believe that development is implementation of innovative ideas. I am running for the President of the Student Government Association. I am eager to represent the whole student body at Bunker Hill Community College and help each of you excel in your academic and student life. I am willing to advocate for the better promotion and usage of the recourses on campus such as: Life Map, The Office of Learning Communities, The Office of Community Engagement, E-portfolio Lab, Math Space, Student Activities, Tutoring Lab, Language Lab, Learn and Earn Program, TAP Program, Child Focus Center, H-Building, Clubs and lot more. Moreover, I am eager to work towards better recognition of BHCC events. I have met many people who, for instance, pass by D-lounge and have no idea what event is taking place. Those events are meant for every one of us, thus we could have fun, enjoy and make friends. I am willing to work along with other members of the Student Government Association, Club Presidents and BHCC faculty, to achieve a better promotion of events or academic news through BHCC e-mail address. I know students who do not use their BHCC e-mail addresses as a result they have lack of information about academic and student life. I want to collaborate and work along with SGA members on several strategies regarding healthier choices in cafeteria, better implementation of events, and usage of support service recourses, and importance of the Student Government Association in our BHCC community. I have embraced the idea that change is not just a word, it is an action. I strongly desire to have a positive impact on our BHCC Community with YOU. Change comes with collaboration and teamwork. We are a team. Let’s not only “Imagine the Possibilities”, let’s utilize them.
