I went to a funeral almost 4 years ago in our church. As did most of Newcastle it seemed. It was standing room only and the wake was moved to our town hall as there was so many people. My husband and father of our 5 kids aged 10-17 at the time , was so loved by us, his family, his friends and his clients. When he passed from Brain Stem Cancer the floor dropped from under our feet. People were amazing, bringing food and we had so many cards and flowers and donations to his charities of choice.... however, after he passed and the funeral was done, it was so quiet..people didnt know what to say when they saw us, and many avoided us altogether as if Brain Stem Cancer was contagious, or perhaps we reminded them that death can occur in any family?? I actually had a friend ask me if I was over Mark 2 weeks later..umm No!! If you know a family who has suffered a loss, dont just go to the funeral...be a part of their lives. Pick up the phone and call to say hi, want some company? or do you want to go for a coffee or want to come for dinner or even do you want to sit and talk ( and maybe cry) about your family member...Youd be surprised how much that would be appreciated! Dont just be the person who goes to a funeral....
