I will be talking first today to Humaira Awais Shahid whose commitment to her countrywomen led her to a seat in the Provincial Assemble of the Punjab, where she fought to protect women, girls and the poor. She is currently promoting her book Devotion and Defiance in the Uk and she will be joining me from there to tell us about her work. Then to speak with blogger Kerry Anne Lane whose Scriptonite Daily blog exists to exists to tell the big stories behind the news; to challenge the neoliberal status quo. Her analysis of issues in the UK such as inequality , poverty and social injustice comes with a refreshing spin and her own question How do we make a world that works for everyone? is one that I will be asking her. And as an interesting contrast I will then go to the States to meet Steve Deace, author of Rules for Patriots, How Can Conservatives Win Again who is also looking to cahllenge the neoliberal status quo, albeit from a different perspective. Deace represents a new generation of conservatives more concerned with preserving liberty than blind partisanship that only props up a corrupt ruling class. To Deace and the millions of grassroots patriots he represents, its not just Right vs. Left, but Right vs. Wrong. Its not just Republican vs. Democrat, but Us vs. Them. And then to Stephen Budd, a British music industry executive based in London. Along with Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorillaz fame, Stephen set up Africa Express, a collection of renowned world music artists from all over the world all aboard a 1970s British Rail diesel train that toured the UK bringing exotic rhythms to various parts of the country.
