I wish the present generation knew the great leader Jawaharlal Nehru,they would have been proud of him. Anil Dharkar correctly says that Nehru was an impossible combination of good looks,charismatic personality,intellectual and oratorial skills that its difficult to imagine another like him . During his lifetime an essay on Nehru emerged in which the writer termed him as dictator but with vast popularity ,a strong will directed to a well- defined purpose,energy,pride,organisational capacity,hardness and love for crowds .His drawbacks were his intolerance for others and a certain contempt of the weak and the inefficient ( a trait later visible in Indiraji). Yet,except for a few politically instigated incidents for so many years,Hindustan,Muslims,Christians and Sikhs have co-existed in reasonable harmony.It was Nehrus towering personality and his staunch belief in secularism that today we live in a reasonable co-hesive society and lovable country.
