I would appreciate your prayers for our ministry up here in Alberta. The Metis Nation is made up of persons with a mixture of Native American/European blood mixture. They have their own distinct language, culture and history. Their most famous representative was Louis Riel and Gabriel Dumont. Dumont was a leader of the Northwest Rebellion 1885. He was a famous buffalo hunter and was a member of Buffalo Bill Codys Wild West Show. The Metis people were very spiritual people and today are normally classified as traditional (Indian Religion), Roman Catholic (French Metis) or Anglican (English Metis). I myself, am a direct descendant of Louis Riel who was married to my Dads grandmothers first cousin. Riel was hanged by the Royal Canadian Mounties at Regina in 1885. The Metis have always been a nomadic people. This comes from their reliance on the roaming buffalo for food and clothing. Even today, Metis people often travel outside their territories for social gatherings, hunting and other purposes. We have a large Metis gathering at Big Valley in July where I serve as a non-stipened chaplain. It is interdenominational, but we do host a prayerbook based Anglican service using the 1928 BCP. After the weekend is over everyone goes back to their own community. However, I make myself available for biblical counselling, marriage and funeral rites, and I serve on the board of directors for the Metis Rendevousz. Please pray for the Metis people in Canada. Many are looking to traditional religion for peace and eternal security. Of course we all know the answer can only be found in and through Our Lord Jesus Christ.
