I would like to share a comment I made in reply to Ben Ballard who suggested that Cancer could strike anyone regardless of their life style habits.I totally get where you are coming from Ben, but the majority of the people who make such excuses just havent got the willpower or discipline to quit their vices. Yes, what you say is true of course, abstaining from the things that are deemed to give us cancer will not guarantee longevity, but we may as well tip the odds in our favour if we can. My Dad once said when he was alive (obviously not when he was dead), that the doctors dont know very much, but they know more then we do. Cancer is just about the worst thing you can get, I have seen many people I know die of it (probably because I am getting older now), not only family members but celebrities too. I have seen a family member suffer for 2 years after an op, and then wither away without the doctors able to do nothing for her, not even control the pain (she was 36 when she died) I have also noticed, that the people who have had cancer and survived, or are touched by it in some way or other, always eat unhealthily, or to put it another way, just eat what they want when they want, and because that is so normal to them , and also not a subject they would bother to focus on, they cant even see it...I mean its just a packet of crisps for Gods sake, or its only a rasher of bacon Keith, get over it!...That is the attitude I get if I sermon them. I eat crisps, chips etc, but not very often at all, some of my colleagues eat them every day. I dont exercise, which I know I should do, but I just havent the time, and I dont enjoy the gym at all, so I am not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. You know what Ben?, I can be as tough as shit, I will walk through a crowd of hard-nuts without a care. I will say what I want to say with my loud booming voice (when I speak I am heard), and enjoy facing the consequences, and I dont mind taking risks in that respect, but when it comes to cancer, you dont fight it (that is all bollocks) you just die. Best to be carefree and cocky in other ways, but leave the smoking, and processed meat eating to the fools who think they are hard enough to beat the most powerful killer known to man.
