ICBL welcomes the announcement yesterday that Greece is making progress on the destruction of all stockpiled anti-personnel mines ahead of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention #3RevCon this month in Mozambique. “As of today, 224,101 anti-personnel mines have been transferred to Bulgaria [to a mine destruction facility] and, of these, 56,530 anti-personnel mines DM-31-type mines have been destroyed,” said Alexandros Alexandris, Ambassador of Greece to the United Nations. As of July 2013, the Landmine Monitor reported a total of 953,285 anti-personnel mines stockpiled by Greece and mandated for destruction under the Mine Ban Treaty - bit.ly/1s2cXcZ.
