IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR PARENTS: If you and your children - TopicsExpress

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR PARENTS: If you and your children attended Fellowship* services on Sunday or Kids Club on Monday, they potentially exposed to three confirmed cases of whooping cough (pertussis). Pertussis is spread by respiratory droplets from the nose and mouth. It is caused by bacteria and treated with antibiotics. Symptoms include a cough lasting longer than two weeks and can include sneezing, runny nose and a low-grade fever. The cough then becomes more severe and consists of episodes of rapid coughing periods followed by a characteristic “whoop.” Older individuals usually cough more at night. The incubation period can be up to three weeks but is generally 7-10 days. Individuals must have close contact with an infected person in order to be exposed to the disease. If your child exhibits the above symptoms in the next 2-3 weeks, Please contact your local physician. Laboratory testing is needed to confirm a diagnosis. Your physician will advise on any further action, if any is needed. Additionally, if you have any children 10 years old or older who have not received an adolescent booster for Tetanus, a Tdap booster, including protection for whooping cough, is available and recommended. This is particularly important if your child is not up to date on Pertussis (whooping cough) shots or has a weakened immune system. For more information or questions, please contact the Clark County Combined Health District at 937-390-5600 ext. 293.
