IMPORTANT WARNING: a new con! An elderly friend of mine realized her deed to her house was not Joint Tenancy with rights of survivorship. We had a new one filed 4-5-2013. Everything was/is fine with it. Today she received a letter in the mail from Wilmington Delaware, worded to look like an official government notice, however in small letters on the front of the envelope it said "not a government agency". At the top of the letter in large letters it says DEED PROCESSING NOTICE, it has all the legal info on her property and is worded to where it made her think she had to order a copy of her "correct" deed & she has to pay $83.00 to get a new copy of the deed. She received a copy as soon as we paid the filing fee on the new deed. I want to make sure everyone knows you can get a copy of your deed from the County Court Clerk of the county you live in. In Oklahoma County and most others you can get a copy online. This lady lives on less than $650.00 a month Social Security, she can not afford something like this! If you know someone who has filed any type new deed, tell them do not send money to these con artists, if they get something like this in the mail!!
