If someone asks me how to get into weights... heres the advice I give: ✔️First of all, Im not a PT. Just a regular woman who loves weight training. I used to, however, have zero idea of what to do in the gym. 1⃣I learnt a lot of moves through doing pump classes, eg I learnt what a squat was. It was great to learn the basics this way. 2⃣Having a PT gave me a lot of ideas about training. I trained with him for 18 months and it helped me remember how the correct movement felt because he was there to watch me. Booking a few sessions with a trainer will teach you loads and help you to know what the intensity should feel like when you train. 3⃣By far the most important thing has been having a plan. Whether its been one my comp prep PT Brock wrote for me or more recently a few new things Ive tried myself, I know exactly what Im doing when I walk through the door. Set a timer and keep focussed. If you want to try something new, you tube it before the gym so you are mentally prepared 4⃣keep the intensity! This is your block of time to be an athlete. Keep off your phone and keep moving. Even during your rest periods keep distractions to a minimum. 5⃣ dont let intimidation hold you back. You have every right to be in the gym as much as the hulk lifting next to you. 6⃣ mind /muscle connection. Pay attention to your movements- go slow and feel the muscle working. Imagine it growing. Watching yourself in the mirror isnt necessarily vain, I do it to keep my form as I dont have a lifting partner to pick up my sloppiness. 7⃣have fun. If you dont enjoy it, youll never be consistent. Remember the process takes time. I never thought Id get shapely as yet in the last 2 months Ive seen huge changes. Consistency and not quitting is everything !
