If “ugliness is body without form,” as Mexican novelist Carlos Fuentes (1928-2012) argued, then a “beautiful body” is the church that takes the form of Christ. Is your church divinely “shaped,” and “in good form?” Without the shape of Christ, the church, whatever its form, is ugly and in “bad form.” (Fuentes definition is in his This I Believe: An A to Z of a Life [2007] in Fuentes’ section on “Beauty”).
