If your one of the ones sitting on the sidelines but are critical - TopicsExpress

If your one of the ones sitting on the sidelines but are critical about how you dont believe something someone else is doing wont work, you can miss me with that rhetoric. One thing is for sure, what youre doing is guaranteed not to work. Today a group of colleges protested at the San Diego City Council Inauguration. Some question the move. Why do it there? What good would it serve? Let me school you out of that ignorance. That council is the arm of legislation in this city that can implement changes such as a Civilian Review board that has the power to subpoena and FIRE officers that abuse their power. That council can also effect legislation locally that will allow other policies to be put into place that protect everyone from racial discrimination and police brutality. By the time our protest was over not only did people come up to us and thank us for how respectful we were of the inauguration process, not only did I get to hand deliver a list of policies to City Council Members that we expect to be implemented here locally, not only did they ask for a way to get in contact with us to discuss things further but we also earned the respect of the former City Council President Todd Gloria as indicated by this tweet and his comments. Thank you to the protestors who attended today’s inauguration. I could see you & I respect the way you conducted yourselves. #AllLivesMatter He later told Reporting San Diego that they “made their position well-known. They did it in a respectful matter without interfering in the flow of a public meeting. “ He also added that as a man of color he understands their views. He also said that the city council approved the body cameras that all police officers. “our hope is to have every officer in the field to have those in a year’s time.” He hopes that this will increase confidence but would like to listen to citizens on how to improve police services. So the next time you look at the news and you see a Media Spun title like the one from NBC wrote and your nostrils flare and youre all upset at those radical young people who keeping marching and protesting, just chill out. This obviously is not your fight, so keep sitting on the side lines and talking about how bad a job were doing and Ill keep fighting for my human rights and getting results. Like I said, you can miss me with your sideline rhetoric. Id like to give an outstanding thank you to Nadin Brzezinski who wrote a brilliant piece on what actually happened today. The quote above and pictures below are from her article which you can read for yourself by following the link below. reportingsandiego/2014/12/10/silent-protest-at-70th-san-diego-city-council-inauguration/ Id also like to give a shout out to UCSD, SDSU, City College, Mesa College and Green Peace for participating in todays protest. Today you made a difference and let no one tell you otherwise.
