Im a business finance major and I find it very disheartening - TopicsExpress

Im a business finance major and I find it very disheartening knowing that there is such a hatred between business students and the performing and visual arts students. Take it from me, Ive been to countless networking events with Colorados top business leaders, and where do you think these events were held? A boardroom? Hell no! They were at art exhibits, theater productions, museums, architectural feats, observing Downtown Denvers public art, among other places. And all of these business leaders (I should mention they consisted of CEOs, VPs, Presidents, ect. of billion dollar enterprises) had a great appreciation for the arts. So why is art so vital for business? Because it builds community. And what is business without community? Its either nothing, or just a meaningless 9-5. Also, business is a very left brain dominant discipline, while theater is very right brain dominant, so by not appreciating the opposite discipline youre only using half your brain. My mentor for example owns an extensive art collection, which he claims is a one of his secrets to his success in the business world, as he finds creative solutions while observing his pieces. And to the art students: Show some respect to business students. As history shows, it the entrepreneurs and philanthropists that buy your art and fund your productions. So lets drop this meaningless rivalry and support each other to build a stronger community, and ultimately get filthy stinkin rich.
