Im going to say some hard truths here, and youre going to hate - TopicsExpress

Im going to say some hard truths here, and youre going to hate listening to it, but hear me out: the chances of BN still winning the next 4 to 5 general elections are very, very high. You people need to wake up and stop thinking that you can change the government through voting. No dictatorship was ever replaced via peaceful means. If you study your history, youll know that turmoil, chaos, and revolution are necessary to get rid of tyrants. Look what happened in the Middle East. They have so much more balls than us, unfortunately. I think a revolution is beyond our risk appetite for now; were still cowards, not very different from Singaporeans. We each have an okay life that wed rather have than going to the streets to ultimately try to overthrow the government. Revolutions arent started by opposition political parties anyway. Now, they have Penang and Selangor, so theyre getting some pretty fat Exco salaries too, in addition to the RM15,000 they get each month for being a Member of Parliament. Why would they risk all that theyve accumulated by supporting dubious overthrow the government movements, even though they know that its the only way to defeat BN/UMNO? Politics is only beneficial for politicians. They fight, they speak up, but they get remunerated too if they win seats and get to form state governments. They have real power to change their own lives and those of their families. You want to vote for the opposition, go ahead. But dont pretend that its a way of fighting. Its at most a symbolic support -- a credit -- for all the hard work that the opposition is doing. So strategize wisely for yourself and your family. How old are you now? Whatever your age, I bet you feel old. How many five years do you want to wait, for that one special day to cast your vote, only to be disappointed over and over again that BN cheats to win? Do you think waiting in sets of five years to cast one vote is a form of fighting? When I told people to leave, so many of these people heroically proclaimed, IM BORN HERE. WHY SHOULD I LEAVE? ILL STAY AND FIGHT FOR MY HOMELAND. Yes, it sounds very rousing and inspirational, but how exactly are you fighting? By casting that one vote every five years, thinking that it makes a difference? By attending feel-good opposition ceramahs? By posting political blurbs on Facebook read by your 500 Facebook friends? If you want really to fight for a better future for yourself and your family, start by defocusing on politics. Forget politics altogether; its a red herring. You should start with yourself. Exercise regularly, eat right, and look good. Learn new skills always, and keep updating your certification/qualification in whatever career you want to pursue. Dont be complacent and keep working hard towards your goals. Strive daily and keep measuring your progress. Save your money and invest them cautiously. Once youre doing pretty well for yourself and feeling happy, two things will happen: 1) youll have enough financial resources to buy yourself a better life instead of hoping for the government to make things right for you, and, 2) consequently, you wont care about politics anymore. Politics is simply the refuge of people looking for someone to blame for their life problems. I hate the government! said no rich man ever. Rich, successful people know that voting and hoping that a change of government will change their own fortunes is stupid. Its lazy, irresponsible, and very self-indulgent too. So do actual things to improve your life. I was in a total mess just about a year ago, yet now Im in the greatest country in the world, saving up money, meeting new people almost every day, and chasing my dreams, not to mention that things look bright for my political asylum hearing, which would ultimately lead to US citizenship in five years. I dont want to sound conceited, but I know many people just wish they could be in my position right now. I call bullshit if anyone says that Malaysia is better than the United States. Deep down inside, theyre just rationalizing, because they cant migrate anyway. They havent been working hard enough to migrate, and theyre ashamed of it, so just pretend to be patriotic. It feels good to do that, but at the end of the day youre impressing nobody; youre still stuck in a shitty country whose shittiness is unending. Your valuable youthful years are wasted fighting some dictatorship in some rubbish dump of a failed state, while other people go out there, chase their dreams, live in big metropolitan cities, drive fast cars, and enjoy all the awesomeness that the world has to offer. Fight or flight? Your choice. Last year, I hit rock-bottom and then, this year, I bounced right up, higher than before and higher than ever, because I actually worked hard, planned, saved, and summoned the courage to execute my goals. I didnt wait for Pakatan Rakyat MPs or lawyers to come and rescue me. I didnt ask my parents to bail me out. I didnt even ask the US Embassy for permission to be in their country. And I definitely wasnt just going to lie down and let UMNO use my valuable youthful years and liberty to gain political support. To escape, I did all the necessary research, consulted the right people, worked harder to save up even more money, and then I trusted myself that things would be all right and took a gigantic leap of faith, risking instant deportation and prolonged immigration detention. But it worked out. Ive always wanted to live in America, and I did it, with really nobodys help. Thats my story. Thats my way of fighting. Whats your way of fighting for a better life? If you still say, Oh, I vote. then you deserve the shitty life for many decades ahead. Real successful people take matters into their own hands. If youre still unconvinced that migrating is the best option now, lets check in with each other 5, 10, and 20 years down the road. You play your cards, and I play mine; lets see who comes out on top. P.S. And for those who think that Id much rather live in Malaysia and was only forced to live in exile in the US, dont flatter yourself, and, please -- to borrow a phrase from a famous fat Singaporean woman -- get out of my elite, uncaring face.
