Im seeing a movement of a few that are making a change to this group. Thank you Orions Belt. Here is my story. My motivation from a young age was to work hard and build a business so that one day my Mother and older sister would never have to work again. They could live life by enjoying it and not working 24/7. For my Mother was my Mother and Father from day 1 and my older sister always took care of me even though she was just a year older then me. My first big dream that never came to be. Turning a stand alone shoe store called Just For Feet into a club. I was 19 at the time, and clubbing was only at Club 2000 in Saint Paul, MN. :D Research and information was not readily available like it is today, but even at that time when me and a friend talked about it, we knew we didnt have the knowledge, team, and especially the funds. We told a few people and they laughed at us. **** A few years later in 2005, this shoe store became what is now Myth Nightclub. Did an 8 year stint in the Marines and came back in 2008. I laid out a 5 year plan for myself during my debriefing of getting out of the military class. My 5 things I had listed were, 1. Finish and get my Bachelors degree in business. 2. Find a good paying job. 3. Buy a house. 4. Get married. 5. Start a family. I was hungry. I wanted to do something badly, but instead found a nice job within a month of getting out and plans got pushed to the side. My second dream came at the end of 2009 that almost happened but I received a Rude Awakening instead. The area that I lived in only had a couple of laundromats and it wasnt meeting the demand of the area. They were jammed packed all the time. I looked at a few places to put in a laundromat, and even asked the building owners if I could put in a laundromat and they would laugh at me, so I gave up because I couldnt find one. A couple of months later an Arbys by us just suddenly closed down. It was in the perfect location. Stand alone with plenty of parking. I started getting the paperwork process and things together then the rude awakening happened. The building owner wanted to have a piece of the business on top of monthly lease and he wanted Majority ownership because it was his building. All I could think about was WTF!!! So that dream ended there. **** A year down the road the city razed that building, and currently two of the many buildings that I looked at are now laundromats! My third and most recent dream that came true but then just recently closed. After many a trips to Vegas and eating Crawfish each time we were there, a few friends jokingly said, why dont we bring a Crawfish restaurant to MN. No one wanted in so I did it myself. After finding a spot, negotiating what I thought was a deal with the CHINESE building owner and doing construction for 6 months I was finally able to open even though the building itself was crumbling. I fixed what I could and brightened up the place. Then the forever winter snow of 2014 finally started melting in May. The roof started leaking water a little into the bathrooms and a little stream started to trickle down in the basement from the foundation walls. As more snow melted the trickle turned into a river basically. The owner said that it was on me to fix it. The first big rain hit, we had leaks everywhere in the restaurant. It was embarrassing. After many failed negotiations and just wearing myself out trying to work with this building owner, I closed down shop. **** After I got all my things out, a couple of days later, dude goes and list the building for rent again! I got him though. The city knows him well now. I have gone through many a trials and tribulations to get to where I am at. I achieved all 5 goals I had set out for myself for my 5 year plan even though it took 6 years. Ive been knocked down, but my foundation is strong. Ill be back soon enough. Dont ever give up. Questions or comments are welcome.
