In Response: Thank you to everyone who commented on my post regarding Pint and the older couple who kicked him. I appreciate all the responses and thoughts. and there were many good points made, and that was what I was hoping for: Good discussion about a common practice. I always walk my dogs on leash, and I have good recall with my dogs. In addition, I am hyper-vigilant when it comes to safety for any fosters in my care. Having said that, I became complacent with my own dogs. I felt it was safe just going next door. What have I learned? I need to stay on alert and keep my dogs safe at all times, no matter how small or irrelevant it may seem at the time. Of course, I never made, or had any intention of making any reports to WAS, cause I knew I was at fault. Instead, I wanted to learn, if my dog is roaming at large, does that mean anyone can do what they want to my dog, i.e. kick them? As I mentioned in my post, I was completely in the wrong by having my dogs off leash, and its good reminder to me and a lesson to others who allow similar digressions, such as leaving their dogs off leash while doing yard work or visiting their neighbours. Despite the over-reaction of the other people, I can only reflect on my actions and learn from the experience. Again, fantastic conversation, and thank you to those who took the time to share your thoughts. Finally, for anyone who has done the same thing, please remember this conversation and that it is our obligation to keep our dogs safe and that should always be the priority. Cheers :)
