In conjunction with Northwest Ambulance Service, and a group of superkeen medics including myself 😀, this evening, we helped deliver a basic life support pilot session in one of the mosques in Prestwich as part of a series that we hope to roll out in mosques and community centres across all of the Northwest. It focused on empowering people in the community (who would not ordinarily have access to these skills) to know what to do in an emergency if a family member or friend collapsed and/or suffered a cardiac arrest. Often, these first few minutes are crucial to what the outcome of a cardiac arrest will be depending on how it is handled. It was extremely encouraging to see all ages and backgrounds attend- both men and women. One elderly man wondered if his wife who died as a result of a heart attack at home could have been saved if he or someone in his family had been equipped with this knowledge prior to her collapse. Many of us have loved ones that are in the older risk category and many south Asians are at a higher risk anyway due to our lifestyles and genetics in some cases. All in all, it was a brilliant first session- the start of many to come iA....WATCH THIS SPACE :) Also looking for many more medic volunteers...Please inbox Zeeshan Malik ! Please share...and spread the word...COMING TO A COMMUNITY CENTRE OR MOSQUE NEAR YOU SOON!
