In the late 80s, aged 10, I was knocked over by a hit & run - the driver jumped the red light, and I was thrown over the car - at the Cambridge Road/ Woolgrove Road crossroads. (I was fine - only bruises, my chopper was destroyed!) All traffic stopped, and a Dr., on his way to his daughters wedding, stopped to help (as did others). In a recent conversation my daughter - who loves this story ?! - wondered if the driver lives his life thinking he killed a little girl & what happened to all the people who helped - did the Dr. get to the wedding on time? etc.. Something that had never occurred to me! My Mum always told me she never had a chance to say thank-you. So - collectively - Thank You to all the past & present careful drivers of Hitchin!
