International Crimes Tribunal Bangladesh strikes a new low in summoning the Daily Sangram for a charge of contempt. The ICT-1 on Sunday ordered Sangram editor Abul Asad, correspondent and Freedom Fighter, Iqramul Haque Dulu, and former Chhatra League leader Azizur Rahman Sarkar Ranga to appear before the Tribunal on 20 August 2014 to respond to a contempt charge after having published an article stating that Jamaat Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam, who is on trial for crimes against humanity during the Liberation War, was not at the scene of the crime as charged and was not guilty. It would appear that no comment may be made concerning a matter sub-judice. This is of particular concern where the statement in question would not appear to have made any comment other than declare the innocence of the accused. Hardly a contemptuous or controversial statement - it was merely an expression of an opinion.
