Intervals is a great way to build some fitness while burning off some calories. There is often this myth surrounding high intense exercise against lower intense (fat burns). With the fear of high intense will break down muscle mass. Its all diet dependant folks if you are going to eat a low carb, low protein diet and do loads of interval training then yes it is likely muscle will break down. If you eat sufficient amounts of macronutrients (calories) then you can still build muscle and stay fit at the same time.
