Is It Really International Criminal Court(ICC) or Africa Criminal - TopicsExpress

Is It Really International Criminal Court(ICC) or Africa Criminal Court(ACC)! On the 52nd anniversary of Ugandas independence yesterday, Ugandas president, Yoweri Museveni said African countries should review their membership of the International Criminal Court(ICC). I support Museveni for this call. In its twelve year of history, the International Criminal Court(ICC) has prosecuted only Africans. Africa accounts for 34 out of its 122 member states. ICCs chief prosecutor is also an African-Fatou Bensouda of Gambia. She assumed the post in 2012 after having served for eight years as the deputy prosecutor. We know the court can exercise jurisdiction only when the crime was committed by a citizen of a member state or on the territory of a member state,or if the situation is referred to the court by the UN Security Council. But it irritates me as the UN Security Council permanent members continuously refused to refer certain obvious non-African candidates to the court for prosecution for states that never joined the court, such as Sri Lanka,North Korea,Uzbekistan,Israel,Palestine,Syria,or Iraq. The UN Security Council never deemed it necessary to give the ICC jurisdiction over crimes in these cases. Now they are busying hovering their jet over Uhurus head! Africa cannot survive with this kind of global weakness!
