Is Jesus (the Son) the same person as the Father (Jehovah)? - TopicsExpress

Is Jesus (the Son) the same person as the Father (Jehovah)? Almost daily I am confronted with those who believe that they are. The following is my personal study and research on this matter this morning: First considered John 17:3. Here Jesus is praying to his Father. He says: And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, AND Jesus Christ, whom thou has sent. Does this not indicate that receiving everlasting life is dependent on us learning about BOTH the Father AND the Son. John 3:16 says that God so loved the world that he SENT his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him (Jesus) should not perish but have everlasting life. This Bible truth is so simple that a child can understand that a Father is not the same person as a Son or even a Daughter for that matter. I understood this from a very early age the first time I heard it and memorized it. Also you can see from these two scriptures that Jesus never claimed to be God. He referred to his Father as God. Jesus spoke of himself and his Father as being two distinct individuals. Jesus said My food is for me to do the will of him that sent me and to finish HIS work. (John 4:34) Jesus never did anything independently of his Father. I cannot do a single thing of my own initiative. (John 5:30) If Jesus had been FULLY God in the flesh than why does John 1:18 say that No man has seen God at ANY time. Exodus 33:20 says of God that Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. At John 8:28 Jesus says that the Father taught him. If Jesus was God, why would he have to be taught anything? We know that Jesus died for our sins. If one believes that Jesus is God, do they believe that God died? Acts 2:32 says This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we are all witnesses. Jesus did not bring himself back to life. His Father resurrected him from the dead. On the day of his resurrection Jesus had a message sent to his disciples by Mary Magdalene. Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not, for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. John 20:17,18) The TRUTH is not a matter of personal opinion. The truth involves obtaining an accurate knowledge of BOTH the Father, who is Jehovah, and the Son, who is Jesus. Also, at John 10:30 Jesus DID say I and my Father are one. People today, the same as the Jews mentioned in the context of this Chapter, make and have made the mistake of believing that Jesus was claiming that he was God. For that reason the Jews were seeking to stone him for blasphemy. Jesus clarified to them that he was the Son of God SENT by his Father and that he does the works of his Father as he had been instructed. At John 17:11 Jesus prays to his Father to watch over his disciples in order that they may be one JUST AS WE ARE. At verse 20 Jesus makes further request of his Father. Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou has sent me. Certainly Jesus was not praying for him, his Father, his disciples and all other believers to become the same person as he was! He was praying for unity. Oneness of thought and purpose. This unity is imperative upon the belief that, as Jesus said, thou has SENT me. Not I have sent myself.
