It is said that sorrow makes us all children again - destroys all differences of intellect. The wisest know nothing. Today, we are as citizens united in our shock, anger, grief and sorrow over the senseless murder of little Keyanna Cumberbatch, yet another child, one too many. It should never come to this and it is times like these which reinforce that fundamental, crucial need for us to reexamine our attitude and behaviour towards our nation’s children and commit once more to protecting and helping them, even when it may seem inconvenient or out of place. Please supervise your children at all times, encourage them to talk to you about everything, so there will be no secrets and no lingering dangers they face alone out of fear or isolation. Let them know they are first in your lives, their care, safety and well being come before all. By getting them to speak up we can prevent the dangers that stalk them, by letting them know about these dangers, we can help them to be alert and aware. To Keyanna and those before who have been stolen from us, now God has you in His keeping but we will always have you in our hearts. May you find eternal peace and comfort in the afterlife with our Heavenly father, and for those who are in our care alive with us, may you always have our protection and love in a world where you remain our only hope of salvation.
