It sometimes seems that many religious people and many atheists go out of their way to misunderstand and misrepresent each other — by taking the best of their own side as typical and the worst of the other side as typical. Of course, I suppose this is true of almost any two groups of people who disagree. Fairness is less important to most people than finding ways to discredit those they disagree with.
