Its an extremely unfortunate situation. Notwithstanding the outright plight and murder of the innocents, we currently live in a world where the shortcomings of the 2003 Iraq intervention has rendered any contemplation of foreign military intervention as fascist and imperialist, viewed with utmost contempt and disgust. 170,000 people have perished in Syria and God knows how many more thousands will be butchered by ISIS in Iraq. Its easy to bash the original decision on Iraq but past mistakes, in my opinion, cannot justify the current inaction by Western governments at the face of mass barbarism and oppression (underpinned, largely, by Political Islam). In many ways, I point the finger at the ignorant rhetoric of the left; the moderates who choose to ignore the extremism of religious zealots; the people who think fire can be fought without fire; and the short-sighted general public: a group that has successfully managed to establish inaction, impunity and non-interventionism as the vote-worthy themes of contemporary Western foreign policy. A brief perusal of any history book can highlight the importance of foreign military assistance (both for the helper and the beneficiary) in the context of peace and long-term security. In summary, please drone the f*** out of ISIS. There is no place for Political Islam in the 21st Century.
