Its the Little Things... I was reminded again today of the power of the Little Things. I am bi-vocational, in that I do ministry and hold a regular job as well. Yesterday was a stressful day for my company, where a lot of things went wrong, and a lot of people were stressed out. I could sense some frustration coming from a co-worker, so I said the following in an email, In the midst of all the craziness, you are appreciated : ) Thanks!. That does not seem like a whole lot, to slow down in the midst of a chaotic day or situation to say but a few words, but the difference it can make in another persons day could be dramatic. She simply replied, Thanks John. Needed to hear that today.. Again, it does not seem to be much, but can you see the emotion in what she wrote, the difference it made in her day? And there is a side effect of encouraging others, in doing so you can lift your own spirit as well, God is awesome that way. If this is the only thing you determined to do each day in your faith, to encourage others, you would be a powerful evangelist, because this is an expression of love, which is greater than hope or faith (1 Cor. 13:12,13), and is a catalyst for changing lives. The world is won for Christ in the consistent little loving acts of the faithful, 1 Corinthians 13:3 tells us that if we have all the gifting of the spirit, extensive knowledge and power to move mountains, but have not love, we have NOTHING! So, what would happen if we all stopped and took just a few seconds here and there to encourage, lift up and support people around us, and made this a part of our daily character...could those little things add up, could they change the world...I believe they really could, dont you? _____ Encouragement is awesome. It (can) actually change the course of another persons day, week, or life. ---Chuck Swindoll The Christian faith is meant to be lived moment by moment. It isnt some broad, general outline--its a long walk with a real Person. Details count: passing thoughts, small sacrifices, a few encouraging words, little acts of kindness, brief victories over nagging sins. ---Joni Eareckson Tada Let us, therefore, not be weary of well-doing; for we shall reap an eternal harvest of comfort, if we faint not. ---George Whitefield _____ 1 Thessalonians 5:11 ESV, Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. Ephesians 4:29 ESV, Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. Proverbs 12:25 ESV, Anxiety in a mans heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad. Philippians 4:8 ESV, Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
