It’s been said that Nature is the best teacher. Some say that Nature and the Creator are one and the same. With this in mind, I have always been fascinated with the natural world. As a youth in the Deep South, my brother and I would spend all day exploring and playing in the wooded areas close to home. It was our passion and tremendous fun. I also greatly enjoyed watching nature programs on TV. One particular show stands out in my memory. It was about the predators that tracked and preyed on a herd of wildebeests in Afrika. Lions, leopards, hyenas and wild dogs followed the herd, relentlessly probing for the young, the old and the weak all along the way. The females of the herd all gave birth within a 2-week period that signaled the beginning of a feeding frenzy. It was estimated that predators killed over 1,500 new borns during that 2-week period out of a herd of thousands. This would be called genocide in a human context. This reality raised many questions in my young mind. Are predators “evil” for killing to ensure their own survival? Wildebeests have never been known to track predators in retaliation for the deaths of their herd mates. Is it that concepts like “good”, “evil”, “right” and “wrong” are purely relative? Or, is there something more fundamental that most of us are not in touch with? I subscribe to the latter premise. This song was born from such meditations. Worry Not For Right and Wrong! We just got to carry on ‘gainst the predator! https://soundcloud/mastersee/predator/s-Rdo9X
