Ive been asked several times if I encountered any haunted places - TopicsExpress

Ive been asked several times if I encountered any haunted places while out exploring during my year. The answer to that is no. I did not encounter any ghosts or apparitions or see any unexplainable phenomenon during my year. But that does not mean that I did not explore any places that were ominous and exuded a bit of a dark presence. This is one of those locations, the abandoned Linfield industrial park in Pennsylvania. This facility used to distill liquor and spirits. McKinnon took the day off and accompanied me as I drove up there, the first road trip in the new car. While exploring the outskirts of this massive complex we found a door that had been smashed in, a gaping maw torn into the brick and stone, inviting us into the darkness. I poked my head into the doorway, and climbed onto the pallets that partially barricaded our point of egress. I surveyed the darkened cavern, and felt a slight chill. I was hesitant to enter. It was dark inside, a primal kind of darkness that eons of survival has instilled in us to be wary of; to fear. We do not know what lies in the darkness, but we know that we fear it. I could feel a presence within, like a thousand voices all whispering at once, an unintelligible cacophony screaming quietly. I turned to Mckinnon, and bolstering my courage, I said bro, its dark... But he insisted that we enter, so we did. I started to climb off the pallet and my foot immediately plunged through the rotting wood, making a sickly snapping sound that reverberated throughout the cavernous warehouse, announcing our presence to anyone or anything that may have been lurking within. As we slowly started to survey our surroundings our eyes began to adjust and we began to pick out interesting things to photograph. A solitary chair, forlorn and broken, waiting to ease the burden of any weary workers who required its service. A lone jacket, hung up by a worker when he was done for the day, fully expecting to return the next day and don it again to resume his work. A long exposure of the main room of the building, illuminated by our flashlights, showing where someone had set a fire to abate the darkness. Paper cups strewn about a table, as if the last workers had a small party to celebrate the work they had done before leaving and shutting out the lights forever. And a pile of discarded liquor bottles waiting to be filled and shipped off to stores so they could be purchased by customers either wanting to have a good time or drown their sorrows. The darkness was all consuming, but after a time it became our friend; it welcome the brave explorers into its fold. The darkness had kept out all but the most ardent of urban explorers, so most of the facility had been unmolested by vandals. Time was the only destructive force within this building.
