Ive learned a thing or two in the past year about social media - TopicsExpress

Ive learned a thing or two in the past year about social media posts. 1. As soon as we learn something that supports our particular interpretation of reality - whether theological, political, or philosophical- we are compelled by our ego to throw it out to friends (friends, loosely defined) 2. The problem is that our friends didnt sign up for anything more than casual contact nor are they in the market for for our 140 character sermonette, opinion, or soliloquy. 3. Social media empowers a verbal infringement of audiences that have not been earned -for example, that person who friended us this morning isnt asking for a 140 character sermonic diatribe every hour on the hour. (People buy books they want to read. They purchase tickets for movies they want to see. They attend churches led by those they wish to hear from. But they didnt friend us so we could set up a pesky cybernetic pulpit in their living room) 4. This is just a theory...our level of insecurity is directly proportional to quantity of our postings. 5. People arent us friending us because they love and value our vacuous opinion, theyre just not ready for the resultant emotional cyclone that a Facebook unfriendliness might bring. (more unsolicited observations to follow)
