Ive never been impressed with fancy names. Todays severe weather - TopicsExpress

Ive never been impressed with fancy names. Todays severe weather disturbance has proven my disdain for such a fancy name as Disaster risk reduction management which is the flavor of the month these days. I woke up early this morning to hear the winds howling and the rains pounding my roof incessantly and i checked the weather bulletin issued by PAGASA and no mention was made if typhoon glenda was going to affect northern cebu. When i saw that the skies were turning dark and the wind was picking up speed i decided to suspend classes and instructed my staff to alert all schools and later on i read that the other local government units were doing the same. The Governor by mid afternoon declared all classes suspended throughout the whole island of cebu. PAGASA by mid afternoon also declared northern cebu as under signal number one and the result was the wind died down and the rain dried up and tonite it seems we might be able to see stars in the skies.Ive just received word that the Governor has suspended classes for tomorrow due to bad weather and ill bet a half months salary that tomorrows going to be fine. So going back to that fancy named undertaking of disaster risk reduction baloney i strongly suggest that we first strengthen our gathering of the right information and accurate data when it comes to disasters caused by the weather because we could never reduce our risks if we are fed the wrong info or at worst we never are given any info at all.And to the capitol a piece of advice, it wont do you any harm if you give us a call and ask hows the weather up there. Tomorrows suspension of classes as far as im concerned is a mistake
