Everyone knew the real story - CBS was never really behind her show and the ratings had toppled from that high of the first episode aired on September 29 (a 44 share) to a low (28 share; compared to Bonanzaat a 38 share) by late October, to an even lower 66 our of 80 shows. The critics, fans, and stars raced to her defense, including Lucille Ball, who said I was furious when Judy Garland was given lines like Im a little old lady, and someone taking about the next Judy Garland. bet shes glad her series is over.
