January 25, 2014 – Thought and Poem Another weather alert appeared on the TV screen as I was watching Jeopardy. Strong winds, and snow were coming around to entertain us again today. Winter insist on giving us what she does best, which is keeping us chilled to the bones, complaining and running up our fuel bills. Did you know there was a “good” side to winter? Just like people who need to sleep after so many hours of being awake in a given day, the ground too needs her sleep. How tired would you if you were the one having to grow the all of the earth’s flowers, food, and trees? And speaking of trees, they tend to leave pieces of branches on the roof of our houses and the wind does have a way of helping us out with this. Like everything else we have to deal with in life, how we view what we face can make a big difference. Can you count the many blessings we get from the wind, winter and snow? Share your thoughts with us…Jeanne Claire Probst --- The Wind, Winter and Snow The moving tree branches were letting me know, That the wind was blowing to and fro. Sure enough, a cold snap was coming our way, A warning message appeared on the TV; Alert! Increasing Winds and Snow showers for our area again today! Inside my home I could tell, I didnt need the TV set to prove this forecast to be true, Because my knees and all my bones, in fact, began hurting some time earlier so I knew. Soon the chill in the air made me want to turn up the heat, which I did do, Then I pulled my chair closer to the heating vents to warm my feet and my fingers too. Winter months have a way of sticking around more than we would wish, But I guess it must come so that there is time to do what it should accomplish. With the blanket of snow on the frozen ground, The soil beneath can recuperate from all it grew when the summer months had stayed around. The wind contributes too, I mean, how else would we get the little sticks and branches to come down off our roof? Like everything else in life, there is good and there is bad so it depends on how we chose to view, Because even though the wind, the winter and the snow can be hard on our aching bones, these have their benefits too.
