Jimi Hendrix Concert Film Blue Wild Angel to Be Released on Blu-ray in June The concert film Blue Wild Angel: Jimi Hendrix Live at the Isle of Wight, which captures the late guitar legends historic 1970 performance at the British festival, will be released on Blu-ray for the first time on June 17. The movie, which originally was released on DVD in 2002, was an updated version of an earlier concert flick and offered more complete coverage of Hendrixs appearance at the event. Taking place in August of 1970, Hendrixs Isle of Wight performance marked the first time Jimi had played in the U.K. with the re-formed version of the Jimi Hendrix Experience that featured Billy Cox stepping in for the groups founding bassist, Noel Redding. The show was attended by 600,000 people, the largest audience ever to witness a Hendrix performance, and came just 18 days before Jimis untimely death at the age of 27. Hendrixs Isle of Wight set started off with renditions of God Save the Queen and The Beatles Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, and also featured such classic songs as Red House, Foxey Lady, Purple Haze and Voodoo Child (Slight Return). In addition, Jimi played a few songs he was preparing for his never-completed next studio album -- Freedom, Ezy Ryder and In from the Storm. Blue Wild Angel features footage from director Murray Lerners archive of rare performances, which can be viewed simultaneously from various angles. It also includes interviews with Cox, and Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell, as well as a number of interesting bonus features. In addition, the film boasts a soundtrack mixed in stereo and 5.1 surround sound by famed Hendrix engineer Eddie Kramer.
