Julian Draxler confirms Real Madrid or Barcelona dream Schalke’s highly rated midfielder Julian Draxler has claimed that it would be a dream to join Spanish giants Real Madrid or Barcelona in the near future. The Germany international has been linked with a big money move to Bundesliga clubs Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in recent times, but has now confirmed that he would be open to a move to Spain or England’s Premier League. The player signed a new contract in May, which keeps him with the Gelsenkirchen based club until at least 2018, and insisted when he signed that he would remain with the club for the 2013/2014 season. This now looks in doubt however, with his stock rising and clubs willing to splash the cash on the 19-year-old in the summer transfer window. The release clause in his new contract stands at €45.5million, but the attacking midfielder invited offers from clubs by stating his desire to play for Real or Barca. Speaking to Sport1, Draxler revealed, “Which boy doesn’t dream about playing for Real, Barca, Chelsea or Manchester United? That’s nothing to be ashamed of.” His agent Roger Wittmann has also spoken about his client’s future, stating that the full release clause will have to be met if he is to leave the Veltins- Arena. “The player costs 45.5 million, and he has to agree. These are the conditions of the transfer,” Wittman told Bild. The player, who graduated through the youth ranks at Schalke, has sparked interest due to his stellar performances this season, bringing 11 goals and three assists in his 36 appearances for the club. ~IRK
