June 27, 1863: 7th TN near Fayetteville, Pennsylvania / JT Present “At Chambersburg, Hill turned his corps eastward for four miles and camped near Fayetteville,” his men having marched 157 miles in twelve days. It appears that Heth’s Division was in front. Robertson, page 203-204 As a result of bad feelings between him and the administration in Washington, Major General Hooker resigned as commander of the Army of the Potomac. President Lincoln named Major General George Gordon Meade to replace him. Most of the Yankee army was just north of Frederick, Maryland.
