Just a friendly reminder: Civil Discourse may be defined as engagement in conversation intended to enhance understanding. It requires respect of the other participants. It neither diminishes the others moral worth, nor questions their good judgment. It avoids hostility, direct antagonism or excessive persuasion. It requires modesty and an appreciation for the other participants experiences. The following is a quote from Mark DeMoss, founder of the Civility Project: Id like to see us, on both sides of any issue, Id like to see us increasingly wage ideological battles with words and ideas, not with volume and tactics and antics. I think were losing this ability to debate with words and ideas and instead were debating with volume and shouting and those sorts of things. This group is being formed as a place where issues concerning the Cherokee Nation may be discussed. These may be issues of our past, present or possible future. It is intended as a safe outlet for one to do so without fear of persecution regardless of which side of the issue they stand. As a member of this group, you will be expected to demonstrate tolerance for those with opposing views. There will be no volume, shouting or antics. Outright attacks of ANY PERSONAL nature directed toward an elected official (past or present), or toward a private citizen will not be allowed or tolerated. If one displays that type of behavior, they will be removed without warning from this group. Simple as that. Personal vendettas will not be tolerated or promoted in any way, shape or form and are very easily recognized. We see them for what they are and are aware of their agendas. If anyone demonstrates that behavior in this group, I repeat, you will be removed without warning from this group. Simple as that. Pseudo names will not be allowed in this group. If discovered, they will be removed from the group. If for whatever reason you are unable to abide by this request, please do not ask to join this group.
