Just finished watching Captain America Winter Soldier: 1) Screw Captain America I want to be Falcon! 2) Scarlett Johansson is badass But something was nagging me through the movie. The sociopolitical conversation of the movie is absolutely a picture of where we are at as a generation. In our thinking everyone is flawed, no authority is ever good, there are no heroes, no one can do anything correct, in essence, we trust nothing. We almost make the 60s seem organized! Mistrust is the central thread of ALL our current topics: war, politics, economics, foreign affairs, even our FOOD! We trust no one, we trust nothing. The hard part is there is a small grain of truth in it. All of our wars, to varying degrees, have had a mission that to MOST was noble, especially those willing to risk everything on the front lines. Yet not all that was done was good or even just. Our extreme political Right and Left havent helped to categorize us they have simply become banners of ignorance fighting for right to not think or study. We have a whole generation starting to vote that cant really align with either side... We dont trust either. Somehow, at some point, we have to find a way to heal, to trust, to find a common ground for which we can align ourselves. How do we assess history with the unbiased truth to look at what has been lauded by historians but in truth was unjust? And in that assessment, how do we handle the WAY of the process so that the outcome is not further shame, anarchy and mistrust? The answer I do not know. And truer still is the fact that all I have written is about intellectual topics but the heart of the words comes from a deep hurt for my people, my family. Only God knows.... Selah.
