Just listening to Obama tonight and the discussions I am hearing. I am frustrated by some comments. Obama commented on white women clutching their purses closer when a black man is near. This is true but, I also clutch my purse closer when any man is near. I know they are bigger and stronger than me. He also said he has heard locks on cars clicking when he was near. This too is probably true. I will also set my locks when other men come near. He commented on being watched closely when in stores. I have also experienced this when as a young European, Scandinavian American mother with 3 small boys would enter some stores. As we would shop we could see people closely watching us. At this point, I would take my business to another store. I guess what I am feeling is that each of us have stories to tell and perceptions of our own to deal with. I described myself as a European, Scandinavian American woman. But I truely believe this is crazy. I am an American woman. I was born here and the other parts of my history are just that, part of my history. I am American and proud of that! I apologize if I have upset anyone as that is not my intention. I would love to see all people, regardless of color realize we are all one race, human. We have many different cultures that help make us the great nation we are. We can share our Uniqueness with all and hopefully come together soon. Thank you.
