Just thought Id share one of the mails Ive sent but never got a reply to. Its to someone at Lazarus Ltd regarding their strike on my video of The The - GIANT, which was the start of this whole thing that got my account terminated. Hi Jack, Ive had my YouTube account 0x51d since 2007. I started it because I wanted to spread knowledge about artists & their music to people, and encourage people to buy their records - or downloads, when available. Every single upload was recorded from my vinyl collection, the video showed my turntable playing the record with the sleeve in the background. About half-way through the track I flipped the sleeve to show the backside of it. I wanted the people to see what was going on. Many people dont even know what a vinyl record is these days. I spent lots of time doing this, but never to gain any profit. I have helped people find out about songs they once heard but couldnt remember who it was by. I have helped artists promote their reunion gigs through their comments on my videos. I have helped people to find out about artists they would never ever have heard of otherwise. I have seen people find each other through their taste of music by discussions on my videos. I have inspired people to go out & buy the artists records! And go to their gigs! But you have been taking part in shutting me down. When I announced on my Facebook page that my account had been terminated I got an enormous response, here are a couple of the comments: ------------------------------------------------ I discovered some amazing music on your channel, and songs Ive tried to find on the for years in certain cases! Cant see how your format would hurt anyones interests. Thank you for that - I support what you did, and will do further if you discover a new medium to keep it up. The new youtube policy is ridiculous and hopefully will drive them to oblivion, as the music industry is not what was 20 years ago. I cant believe this is how they are trying to make money, and probably the artists have no say in this (and get no income from it anyway)... If it wasnt for you Id never have even heard of half these artists. I find it ridiculous that they choose to complain about the content of your channel, when you consider the vast amount of commercial music videos on YouTube that seem to be perfectly fine to stay where they are. I am all for the artists being able to make money and earn what they deserve from their records, but when you consider that in your case some of the records on your channel were probably only released on vinyl format and were so old that they are probably now deleted, it isnt going to be effecting them at all. After viewing some of the content on your channel I have actively gone out and purchased a few of the albums on hard copy and download. Without your channel I would not of been aware of such music. Being someone who is into alternative, older and more obscure music, YouTube is one one of the few places that I can discover such a thing. Imagine if every holder of copyright reported infringements on the content of YouTube. I doubt YouTube would still exist. Thank you for introducing me to some great music. Im so sorry for you. Such hard work, helping publicize music for free (when so many artists have to pay to get their music played!) and now this.... So sad indeed.. the best youtube channel.. and now its gone. Thanks for all your effort I am so sorry that this happen. If you havent post theese old songs they had been lost. You should have diploma for promoting old and lost 80s stuff. Gutted , my favourite YouTube channel , I have discovered so many great records on there . Dont give up dude , keep on keeping on !! Thank you for sharing your collection with so much care, it was the youtube account that really was a pleasure to explore. Respect for your dedication! Devastated ... thats like setting fire to a library Thanks for your passionate and respectful work to music, musicians and music lovers. Instead of terminating your account they should have payed you a sales manager salary... WTF.. one of the best channels out there many a time allowing me to pre-listen a tune before i bought it or just plainly educate while randomly jumping over the uploads... whats their point?? just made me sad. Such a sad day. The wealth of material on here was an invaluable resource. Echoing what Nick Davis says the page served to prompt me to buy several records. I shall continue to be an avid consumer of Zyron radio output. Unbelievable! I bought a few LPs because of your videos! I sought after a lot of unfamiliar music, I think youre the only youtube page Im even subscribed to...its been years! Your love of music is obvious, your love of sharing music is beyond dispute. They however are a bunch of corporate c&@ts. This makes me really sad! Discovered and rediscovered soooo many good tracks from that channel over the past several years, sad to see it all gone. Your channel was kind of a defining element of this era and a huge resource for diggers / music buyers across the globe. How its removal will benefit anyone I have no idea. my god, infuriating is just inadequate to describe it right now. i bet you got the support of thousands, mine included dude Sad. Youve performed monumental service to the global music community. Its a shame the music industry cant see what a brilliant service you do, educating and reaching out with your passion for music. Ditto everyone elses comments, it was one of the best channels. ------------------------------------------------ Thats just a few of them. And I left out those including lots of f-words too. So now Im writing to you again since you never replied to my last mail in which I raised a couple of issues regarding your way of dealing with copyrighted material that Id find interesting to hear more about. For starters I know that Lazarus Ltd. is using YouTubes Content Verification Programme, which means that you can decide automatically how to handle uploads that match your content: - Mute audio that matches their music - Block a whole video from being viewed - Monetise the video by running ads against it - Track the video’s viewership statistics I remember that my upload of The The - GIANT, which this is about, used to be blocked world-wide for a period of time. And then, it was all of a sudden viewable word-wide. At this point you could have placed an ad on the video, since I on my side had acknowledged the Content ID claim, and by doing so get more people to hear the great song & find out about the artist, and you could monetise on my video. This would be exactly what I wanted, and the whole point with my YouTube channel: to spread the knowledge about artists & their music to people, and at the same time they could get at least some kind of payment for it. Sounds like the right way to go. But instead you spend money on employing agents to sweep YouTube, randomly, and manually report videos - in this case a video which used to be blocked world-wide by your CVP settings. To me it sounds like abusing the system, when you can use CVP to just block your stuff. I find this extremely illogical & puzzling - & saddening. Id be happy if you replied to this and explained how this termination of my YouTube account was a good thing for anyone, and why you dont use the CVP system as it was supposed to. Theres always a possibility to retract a copyright strike, heres a description on how it works: https://support.google/youtube/answer/2807691 The ID of the video in question is SHeCYMWs4sc Let me end this mail the way I started my first one: Ive been a passionate record collector for over 30 years and Ive always found great pleasure in helping other people to discover good music. That is the purpose of my YouTube channel, and I know for a fact that many people have stumbled upon the music Ive uploaded and bought the record or download if available. And ask you how that is a bad thing, for anyone. Regards, Johan
